Where to Watch The Empress Season 3
The Empress season 3 streams only on Netflix, from Thursday 12 November 2026, and Netflix says the date applies worldwide. It is the third and final season of the German Sisi drama, with six episodes, and until that date only seasons 1 and 2 are available.
There is no second place to watch it. Netflix bills the season as exclusive, and our licensed-offer check for the US and Germany shows Netflix as the only service carrying the series, on its regular plans and on the plan with ads.

Season dates at a glance
| Season | Added to Netflix | Episodes | | --- | --- | --- | | Season 1 | 29 September 2022 | 6 | | Season 2 | 22 November 2024 | 6 | | Season 3 (final) | 12 November 2026 | 6 |
That is 18 episodes in total. Netflix's announcement gives one date for the final season and no weekly schedule, and German trade coverage treats the final episodes as arriving on that date. The announcement does not spell out that all six land together, and it gives no release hour, so check the title page on the day.
What to rewatch before 12 November
Watch in release order. The show is a single continuous story, so there is no alternative order and no season worth skipping.
If you only have time for one, make it season 2. Season 3 opens directly on its consequences: the war, Franz coming home changed, and a marriage already under strain. Season 2 also carries the tension with Archduchess Sophie and the death of Elisabeth and Franz's first child, which the new episodes build on.
Season 1 is the easier one to skim if you remember the basics: Elisabeth's arrival in Vienna and the wedding. Starting today, two episodes a night would finish all twelve in six nights, with time to spare.
What happens in the final season
Without going past Netflix's own summary: Franz returns from the Sardinian War traumatised and guilty over the soldiers he lost. Pressure at court and Elisabeth's failing health push her out of Vienna to a remote island, where she meets Count Andrássy, leader of the Hungarian revolution. Maximilian and Marie, meanwhile, leave for Mexico, where he is to take a throne. Elisabeth ends up choosing between what she wants and what she owes her people.
History gives away part of the second storyline if you look it up, since Maximilian's Mexican reign is well documented. If you want to go in cold, do not read about him first.
The main cast returns: Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu as Elisabeth, Philip Froissant as Franz, Melika Foroutan as Sophie, Johannes Nussbaum as Maximilian and Josephine Thiesen as Marie, with Dejan Bućin joining as Andrássy. A Vodafone Germany preview also lists Nico Holonics as Otto von Bismarck and Sebastian Blomberg as Kaiser Wilhelm I.
German with subtitles, or the English dub?
The series is German-language, and Netflix also carries an English dub. Collider's review of the first season came down hard for the original with subtitles, and we would make the same call: much of the show depends on tone at court, and that is the first thing a dub flattens. If you watched the earlier seasons dubbed, though, stay with the voices you know for the finale.
Which plan you need
Any current Netflix plan will do. The licensed data lists the series on the plan with ads as well as the ad-free ones in both the US and Germany, so there is no reason to upgrade for this show alone. This check covers those two countries; Netflix's "worldwide" wording is what covers the rest.
Since the whole series is six-episode seasons, one month of Netflix comfortably covers all of it, if that is the only reason you are subscribing.
Two more ways to see Sisi
The series is one version of a story that has been told on screen for 70 years, and these two films make a useful contrast. Offers below are US listings; other countries differ, so run a search first.
- Sissi (1955), Ernst Marischka's film with Romy Schneider, is the sugar-coated classic, and the first of three. It is free with ads on Tubi and The Roku Channel, and also on Plex.
- Corsage (2022), Marie Kreutzer's film with Vicky Krieps, is the anti-Sissi: an unhappy Elisabeth, anxious about her fading beauty and trying to take back control of her life. It is on AMC+ and Sundance Now, listed as free on Kanopy, and with ads on Plex.
