VisionQuest: Where to Watch, and What to Rewatch First

VisionQuest premiered on Disney+ on 14 October 2026 and runs eight episodes, with the finale landing in mid-November 2026. Paul Bettany is back as Vision; James Spader returns as Ultron for the first time since Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015.

It is also the closing chapter of what has quietly become Marvel Television's best run: WandaVision (2021), Agatha All Along (2024), and now this. Terry Matalas — who ran the one season of Picard that people defend — is showrunner.

Where to watch

Disney+, exclusively. There is no theatrical component, no rental option and no free tier — it is a Disney+ original in every market the service operates in.

Marvel front-loaded the release: two episodes at a time for the first three weeks, then single weekly episodes to close it out, putting the finale around 10–11 November 2026 depending on your timezone. If you are reading this in early November, you are an episode or two from the end.

The rewatch order, in order of usefulness

Do watch

  1. WandaVision (2021, 9 episodes) — where this Vision came from. Crucially, the Vision in VisionQuest is not the one who died in Infinity War — he is the white reconstruction built by S.W.O.R.D. in the WandaVision finale, with no memories and no emotional anchor. If you watch nothing else, watch episode 8 and the finale.
  2. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) — Spader's Ultron is back, and the series treats their shared origin as the whole point. Both were born in the same lab, out of the same mind.

Helps, but does not gate anything

  1. Agatha All Along (2024) — introduces Billy Maximoff, and VisionQuest turns on Thomas Shepard, the boy who may be Vision's son reincarnate. The Maximoff twins thread runs through both.
  2. Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018) — for the original Vision's arc and the Mind Stone. Useful emotional context, not required plot.

Skip

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness contributes essentially nothing here, despite being the other Wanda-heavy film. VisionQuest is a Vision story, not a Wanda story.

Why this one landed when so much Marvel TV hasn't

The honest answer is scope. A bounty on Vision's head, a boy who might be his son, and the machine that made him — that is a chase story with three characters in it, not a multiverse to be managed. Matalas has built it as a season of television rather than a film cut into eight parts, and it shows in the pacing.

It is also, structurally, the first Marvel series in a while with a real ending attached. The trilogy closes. That turns out to matter.

After the finale

If the appeal was a synthetic person working out what they are, rather than the fight scenes:

  • Blade Runner 2049 (2017) — the same question, asked more patiently.
  • Ex Machina (2014) — Alex Garland, and Oscar Isaac at his most unpleasant.
  • Westworld season 1 (2016) — before it got away from itself.
