Solo Mio: Kevin James Starts Over in Rome in This Hilarious New Comedy

Sometimes you need a film that simply wants to make you smile, laugh, and leave you feeling good. Solo Mio — released in February 2026 and starring Kevin James — is precisely and unapologetically that kind of film: an affectionate, funny, and thoroughly enjoyable comedy that uses the magical backdrop of Rome to tell a warmhearted story about second chances.

The Story: Left at the Altar, Found in Rome

Danny Mio (Kevin James) has had better days. Having been left at the altar in Rome during what was supposed to be the most romantic and perfectly planned wedding of his life — by a fiancée who concluded, at the last possible moment, that the relationship was not what she wanted — he finds himself stranded in a foreign country, jobless, heartbroken, and in possession of a two-week prepaid Rome honeymoon.

The reasonable response would be to fly home. Danny Mio, faced with reasonable options, instinctively pivots to unreasonable ones.

He stays. What begins as a detour from humiliation becomes something more: an accidental reinvention, a discovery that the life he had carefully built was perhaps a size or two too small even before his fiancée pointed it out. Rome, with its extraordinary capacity for the beautiful and the chaotic, becomes the unlikely setting for Danny's slow, funny, unexpectedly moving emergence as a person who can surprise himself.

Kevin James: Doing What He Does Best

Kevin James is a performer who trusts his audience to like him — which they do, consistently, because his comedy comes from warmth rather than aggression and his characters' primary quality is a kind of stumbling, well-meaning humanity that is difficult not to root for. In Solo Mio, he is given the additional resource of Rome itself as a partner — the city responds to his particular flavor of bewildered affection with its usual magnificent indifference, producing comedy in the gap.

Rome: The Real Star

Solo Mio was filmed on location in Rome with evident affection for the city. The Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the narrow streets of Trastevere, the chaos of Campo de' Fiori — the film uses all of it not as mere postcard scenery but as an active comedic environment with its own logic and personality.
